Project History

Over the years, The Dow Company has contracted with most of the heavy and highway and building contractors in Massachusetts. The company has also worked in Maine, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.

As a subcontractor on the creation of Route 495, the circumferential highway around Boston, The Dow Company laid water, sewer and drain lines for most of the highway. The Dow Company has continued its relationship with the Mass Highway Department, working on most major highways in Massachusetts.

The Dow history with MBTA includes work on the Oak Grove Station in Malden, Davis Square and Porter Square stations and tunnels in Cambridge, and South Boston undercrossing. Work also included relocating a 48" steel water main in the middle of Harvard Square to make way for the new MBTA Station, and more recently at Russia Wharf excavating a 65' deep subway approach to the Fort Point channel crossing.

The Dow Company is proud of their part of the Boston Harbor clean-up. The company was instrumental in the rebuilding of the old Deer Island sewage treatment facility. Other work includes the Westborough Treatment plant with exterior plant piping and river crossing and the Framingham MWRA sewage pumping station, where there was excavation for a 45' deep, 150' diameter circular coffer dam required for the pumping station.

The Dow Company began work on the historic "Big Dig" as subcontractors working on the haul road in Revere and continued moving underground facilities through South Boston, East Boston, along the waterfront and Boston Proper, Route 93 and I-90 intersection, Logan Airport, and Northpoint Park in Cambridge.

The Dow Company has been very active at Logan Airport on many major projects, taking part in the construction of the new Web Garage, Bird Island Flats Garage, the renovation of the Central Garage, the new Fuel Farm, Terminals A and International Gateway, and most of the new Central Artery ramps and Terminal Area Roadways.
